What's the Interreg Next Black Sea Basin Program (2021-2027)?
One of the Cross-Border Cooperation Programs managed by the Directorate for European Union Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the ENPI Black Sea Basin Cross-Border Cooperation Program. The program conducted under the European Neighborhood Policy is a multilateral cooperation program in which our country participates with IPA funds.
Program’s Eligible Area
In addition to Turkey, the program includes Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, and Greece. The program covers the following provinces from our country: Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Edirne, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Düzce, Bolu, Yalova, Zonguldak, Karabük, Bartın, Kastamonu, Çankırı, Sinop, Samsun, Tokat, Çorum, Amasya, Trabzon, Ordu, Giresun, Rize, Artvin, and Gümüşhane.
Priority Areas of the Program
The priority areas of the program for the 2021-2027 period are;
1. A more competitive and smarter Europe: developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies
2. A greener, low-carbon Europe: promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system-based approaches
3. Enhancing protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity, and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and reducing all forms of pollution
Funding Providers and Funding Amounts of the Program
For the period 2021-2027, there is a budget of 59 million Euros (Interreg funds) available. 90% of the financing will be provided from Interreg funds; the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the Neighborhood, Development, and International Cooperation Instrument, and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance will collectively cover this share, while beneficiaries will contribute the remaining percentage.
Contributions of the Program
The Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program 2021-2027 will strengthen existing ties among participant countries and establish new connections in the fields of research, innovation, and environmental protection. Thus, the program will enhance and deepen cross-border cooperation in the Black Sea Basin region within a transnational framework.
